Sunday Morning Routine

Sunday Morning Routine

Nursery care is provided for children under 2 years of age during the adult service.

Classes are held for children and youth ages 2 to 18 during the adult worship service.

The Drop Off

Students, ages 0 yrs to 4th grade, should be escorted to their classroom by a parent between 9:45 and 10:00 am. In the interest of Sacred Safety for the children, the parent will put the child’s name tag on, and take their name card with them. Parents are in charge of their child/ren’s name card, and may only ask another adult to substitute for them during the pick-up procedure. The name card is needed to pick the child up after Sunday School.

Teens (5th - grade students) should report directly to their classroom.

The Pick Up

All children, 4th grade and under, must be picked up from their classroom immediately following the service. We will only release children to an adult who has the child’s name card. The children must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the end of service.

Youth Policies

Discipline Policies

Discipline= Guidance toward right behavior; spiritual mentoring

Unity teaches that every child is created in the image and likeness of God.

Discipline helps them to understand their own divinity and make choices that align them with their Christ consciousness.

The Five Primary Needs of Children

Love*Order*Wisdom*Involvement*Fun

Classroom Discipline

*We are here each week to hold your child in love and respect. Our work is about allowing each child to unfold in their own divine way. Our overriding concern is the well-being of all the children.

*Teachers take into consideration the childs comfort level in participating with the group. Each child is encouraged to participate, but is not forced.

If they choose not to participate they may sit quietly and observe the class. The teacher will periodically invite the child to join the class.

*When a child expresses disruptive behavior, the teacher will provide opportunities for the child to choose to share, and co-operate in class, respectfully. In the rare event the child is still unhappy, or disruptive after several attempts to bring the child back into the group, we will quietly enter the church service to ask the parent to come assist in the classroom. A parent may be asked to attend the Sunday Classroom until the child feels comfortable and ready to participate.

*If your child has special needs, or is experiencing difficulty in some area, please share that information with the teacher or Youth Ministry Director. We can then take appropriate steps to enhance your child’s experience.

Required Participation

In order to provide a fulfilling experience for all of our children the parents will be required to participate in the Youth Ministry program. When one parent volunteers in some capacity at least once a month the burden will remain very small for all of us. Our Youth Ministry will greatly benefit from all the talents and ideas of our congregation, which will then create wonderful experiences for our youth. Together we can all create a safe, and loving, environment that will encourage all of our children to realize and fulfill their own divine potential.

All classrooms require two adults to be present. This is in compliance with insurance requirements, and most importantly Unity’s Sacred Safety policy. Any classrooms that do not have as least two adults will not be able to be provided for that Sunday. These children will have to attend the adult service with their parents, and clipboard activity packets will be provided.

In order to fulfill our obligations to your children, and to allow you to be involved in this process, we will require one parent volunteering at least once each month. More participation is greatly appreciated.

Opportunities for Required Participation

Team Teacher:

*A teacher will lovingly facilitate the Sunday school lesson.

*Training, materials and lesson plans are provided.

*Two weeks a month are required to keep a sense of consistency for the children

Youth: What We Teach

Affirmative Prayer

Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It includes the release of counterproductive negative thoughts, as well as holding in mind statements of spiritual truth. Through meditation, we experience the presence of God. Prayer and meditation heighten our awareness and thereby transform our lives.

Living Curriculum

The vision of A Living Curriculum is to empower children and youth to use their spiritual wisdom to fulfill their soul’s purpose; to empower parents to see themselves as the primary spiritual educators of their children and youth; to empower facilitators to see education as a process, through which they effectively support the unfolding of the child’s spiritual nature and model the living of the spiritual principles; to empower a spiritual community to function with unity in diversity; to inspire a world educational community by its philosophy, process, programs and products.

A Living Curriculum Philosophy

5-Point check List

1. Identify: Each lesson begins with an issue or theme that will be explored.

2. The Vehicle: Either a Bible story, literature, movie clip, life event, or song are used to introduce the issue or theme. This creates a common experience that everyone can connect to.

3. The Discussion: This is the heart of each lesson. The questions used invite the students to see how the issue is happening to the characters in the story, how it is happening in their lives and the world around them and helps them come to their own conclusions as to how to experience life from a deeper, more connected place.

4. The Creative Experience: The creative experiences are open ended activities that invite the students to play in what they have heard and shared and to explore how it relevant to their lives.

5. The Sharing: Each lesson ends with an opportunity for the students to share what they have experienced. They are also encouraged to take the new discoveries home with them and use them in their daily lives.

Meditating With Children

Meditation is most successful and powerful if it is done at the same time and in the same location each time. This sets up a routine for you and your child and becomes a very powerful time to be together.

Establish a certain cue, or set of cues, that always occur prior to meditation time, this will become an unconscious signal to the children, and they will begin to prepare themselves for the experience without even being aware of it. Allow the child to participate in the ritual of preparing for meditation. Remember to focus on one aspect of meditation at a time.

Some cues you might use are:

Setting up a peaceful picture -- Turning the lights off

Playing a specific piece of music -- Turning on a special night light

A technique to try:

Invite your children to sit quietly and comfortable with you for just a moment. Tell them that first we will focus on our breath.. Just gently breathe in and out, feeling our shoulders relax, our hands relax and our feet become still. Just gently breathe for a minute or two. Then softly encourage your child to repeat the Prayer for Protection with you:

The Light of God surrounds.

The Love of God enfolds us.

The Power of God protects us.

The Presence of God watches over us.

Wherever we are God is,

And all is well.

Thank You God!

Allow a few seconds of silence and then gently encourage them to return their attention to the present moment.

This simple technique practiced daily will help to create a powerful prayer consciousness within you and your child.

As a spiritual youth community, we provide a safe, nurturing, and loving environment that will encourage our children to realize and fulfill their own divine potential.
